The good & the bad
The good
- ▲64.5 kWh of LFP battery at this price is the most usable capacity per rupee of any EV sold new in Pakistan, and the 435 km export-cycle figure is a more honest number than the optimistic claims most rivals quote
- ▲150 kW DC fast charging with a 10 to 80 percent time of about 24 minutes is quicker than anything at this price and materially better than the BYD Atto 3
- ▲Physically much larger than its price rivals - 4,605 mm long on a 2,775 mm wheelbase with 427 litres of boot expanding to 978, and rear seats that recline up to 137 degrees
- ▲LFP chemistry suits Pakistani heat, and the quoted 8-year or 200,000 km battery warranty is the most reassuring coverage on offer in this segment
- ▲Lucky Motor is a large, established Pakistani assembler with an existing nationwide Kia dealer and parts organisation - a fundamentally different proposition from a start-up importer
- ▲A 14.6-inch infotainment screen, panoramic sunroof, electric tailgate and dual-zone climate at a price where those are not a given
The bad
- ▼Apparently imported, which means parts arrive from China by sea. Lucky Motor's ability to assemble Kias locally does nothing for an Aion V body panel or a failed inverter
- ▼Four months on the market with no published owner reviews and a handful of used cars listed nationwide. There is no accumulated Pakistani knowledge about this car at all - reliability, parts pricing, turnaround times, nothing
- ▼An inherited Kia dealer network is not the same as an EV service network. Lucky Motor has not stated how many workshops are certified for high-voltage work, and outside the three big cities that capability almost certainly does not exist
- ▼134 hp and 240 Nm from a single front motor is modest for a 4.6-metre SUV - this is the slowest car in its price bracket and noticeably down on the Atto 3
- ▼Resale is unknowable at this stage. GAC has four months of history in Pakistan and no brand equity to support residuals
- ▼Battery serviceability beyond warranty is untested, with no local pack-repair capability and no published out-of-warranty price
- ▼GAC has announced no charging infrastructure of its own, unlike BYD whose distributor operates its own network. Combined with routine load-shedding, reliable home charging is the buyer's own problem to solve
