The good & the bad
The good
- ▲340 Nm from a standing start and 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, which is quick for a compact SUV
- ▲430 km WLTP is a usable real-world range, and WLTP is a more realistic cycle than the NEDC figure also quoted
- ▲Lithium iron phosphate chemistry - longer-lived and more heat-tolerant than the ternary packs used in some rivals, which matters a great deal in this climate
- ▲30 to 80 per cent in 28 minutes on DC, on the CCS2 standard rather than a proprietary plug
- ▲Battery warranty of 8 years or 160,000 km, and 6 years or 150,000 km on the vehicle
- ▲Five-star Euro NCAP, six airbags, a 360-degree camera and a genuinely complete ADAS list
- ▲One well-equipped grade, so there is no stripped-out version to be steered towards
- ▲4,424 mm long - small enough for city use, which is where an electric car in Pakistan actually works
- ▲NexGen also distributes JAECOO here, so the dealer and service network is shared and growing
The bad
- ▼NO PUBLISHED PRICE. A buyer cannot compare it against anything without going to a dealer
- ▼61 kWh is mid-sized; with air conditioning running in a Pakistani summer the real range will sit well under the 430 km WLTP figure
- ▼DC charging infrastructure outside Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad is thin, which limits an electric car to the city it lives in - and on a 6.6 kW home supply a 61 kWh battery is an overnight job
- ▼OMODA publishes no kWh/100km consumption figure, which is the number that would let a buyer work out the running cost from their own electricity tariff
- ▼Front-wheel drive and a single motor - no all-wheel-drive option
- ▼380 litres to the cargo cover is modest for the class, though the 19-litre front compartment helps with cables
- ▼OMODA is a young brand in Pakistan and long-term parts and resale behaviour are not yet known
