Proton Saga 1.3 Standard MT 2021 Model Fuel Average and Consumption

The Proton Saga 1.3 Standard MT fuel average in Pakistan is 12.5 km/l in the city and 16 km/l on the highway. Combined, that is about 13.9 km/l. On its 40-litre tank that is roughly 500 km of city driving between fills.

Pakistan has no mandatory fuel-economy test, so this is what owners report rather than a certified figure.

Fuel average by route and conditions

Cost per km is worked out at today's petrol price of Rs 392.76 per litre, as published by OGRA on 3 October 2026. Pakistan revises fuel prices daily, so this updates on its own.

Route Average Cost / km
City 12.5 kmpl Rs 31.4
Long 16.0 kmpl Rs 24.5
City with AC 12.3 kmpl Rs 32.1
Long with AC 15.5 kmpl Rs 25.3
City with heavy foot 11.3 kmpl Rs 34.9
Long with heavy foot 12.5 kmpl Rs 31.4
Long on 100 km/h 16.8 kmpl Rs 23.4
Long on 120 km/h 14.7 kmpl Rs 26.7
Long above 120 km/h 13.5 kmpl Rs 29.0

The city and highway averages above are reported figures; the AC and speed breakdown is estimated from them, not separately measured. Real-world mileage varies with traffic, load, tyre pressure and fuel quality.

The good & the bad

The good

  • ▲Real sedan packaging at 4,335 mm with a proper boot, at a price where most rivals are hatchbacks
  • ▲A four-star ASEAN NCAP rating for this generation, with front airbags and ABS with EBD standard on every variant including the base MT - better baseline safety than an Alto or Cultus
  • ▲The four-speed automatic is a conventional torque-converter unit. It is crude, but durable, cheap to service and immune to the dual-clutch problems affecting the Chinese crossovers
  • ▲Genuinely good economy - owners report 10 to 14 km/l in the city with air conditioning and 16 to 20 at steady highway speeds
  • ▲Comfortable on long drives, with a ride well judged for Pakistani roads and praised motorway composure for the price
  • ▲Parts availability has improved materially since launch, with common items stocked locally and complex parts arriving in days rather than weeks

The bad

  • ▼The platform is old - a 2016 design, facelifted twice, already replaced in Malaysia. Pakistan is buying a ten-year-old design in 2026
  • ▼The four-speed automatic is the defining weakness. Four ratios in 2026 means poor highway refinement, sluggish response and worse economy than a modern six-speed or CVT, and owners say so explicitly
  • ▼Equipment is thin. The MT and standard AT have no touchscreen, no alloys, no reverse camera, no parking sensors, no traction control and no hill hold - all confined to the ACE, whose smartphone connectivity is Android-only
  • ▼The 1,332 cc engine produces around 94 hp and 120 Nm, adequate unloaded and genuinely strained with four occupants, luggage and air conditioning on a gradient
  • ▼Resale value is the recurring complaint in owner reviews - Proton has no meaningful second-hand market depth here and buyers know it
  • ▼Interior materials are dated, with hard plastics that scratch easily and a steering column that fouls larger drivers' legs
  • ▼Front airbags only - no side or curtain airbags on any variant - and no stability control on the MT or standard AT
  • ▼The dealer network is much smaller than Suzuki's or Toyota's, which matters more for a budget car whose buyers are least able to absorb a long workshop wait
