The Sportage L is assembled by Lucky Motor Corporation, which has held the Kia licence since 2017 and builds at Bin Qasim, Karachi. Bookings opened in February 2025 at Rs 94.99 lacs, replacing the previous locally assembled Sportage that had been on sale since 2019.
The Sportage L corresponds to the facelifted fifth-generation Sportage sold internationally, with the revised front fascia and the dual 12.3-inch curved display cabin. It measures 4,685 mm long on a 2,755 mm wheelbase, with 181 mm of ground clearance and 586 litres of boot space.
The lineup has narrowed sharply. The 2025 range included petrol options alongside the hybrid; following the August 2026 facelift, Lucky Motor discontinued the Alpha, the 2.0L FWD and the pre-facelift hybrid, leaving only the 1.6T FWD HEV and AWD HEV.
It sits at the top of Pakistan's mainstream C-segment SUV class and competes directly against the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid - its closest rival in price, size and powertrain philosophy, since both are Korean-branded, locally assembled 1.6-litre turbo hybrids within roughly Rs 1 lac of each other at the entry point.
Pakistan gets a single powertrain: Kia's SmartStream 1.6 T-GDI, a 1,598 cc turbocharged direct-injection four rated at 178 hp and 265 Nm, paired with a 64 hp electric motor and a 1.49 kWh lithium-ion battery for a combined 235 hp and 368 Nm. Drive goes through a conventional six-speed automatic with shift-by-wire and paddle shifters, in either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The tank holds 52 litres. This is a conventional self-charging hybrid, not a plug-in, so there is no external charging requirement - relevant in a market where home charging infrastructure is limited.
Reported economy is roughly 15 to 16 km/l for the Sportage L hybrid. City-heavy use tends to sit toward the upper end because the hybrid system recovers energy in stop-start conditions, while sustained motorway cruising relies more on the petrol engine and pulls the average down. Owners should treat it as a genuine improvement over the 10 to 12 km/l typical of the outgoing 2.0-litre petrol Sportage rather than as a Prius-class number. Note this rests on specification figures rather than a large owner-submitted sample.
