It is the default car in Pakistan and it earns a lot of that: strong resale, a dealer in every town, a gearbox and engine that will do 300,000 km, and running costs nobody has to guess at. What it does not give you is safety equipment. Two airbags across a range that reaches PKR 77 lacs is the hard fact here, and the Corolla Cross on the same showroom floor - from PKR 72.35 lacs - has seven plus stability control, hill-start assist and side curtains. Within the range, the 1.6 CVT-i at PKR 66,99,000 is the sweet spot: it adds vehicle stability control, cruise control, sports mode, paddle shift, LED projection headlamps and alloy wheels over the manual, all of which the base car goes without. The 1.6 MT is cheap transport with steel wheels, halogen lamps and no stability control.

The good & the bad
The good
▲The strongest resale value of any sedan in Pakistan, and the broadest dealer and parts network
▲A 470-litre boot and a 2,700 mm wheelbase give genuinely useful family space
▲The 1.6 CVT-i and above add vehicle stability control, cruise control, sports mode, paddle shift and LED projection headlamps
▲A 9-inch capacitive touchscreen with six speakers across the range, with wireless smartphone connectivity on the CVT variants
▲The two 1.6 variants were recently reduced by PKR 1.03 lacs each
▲Mechanically conservative - a naturally aspirated engine and a proven CVT, with no turbo or dual-clutch to worry about
▲ISOFIX anchors and an immobiliser on every variant
The bad
▼Two airbags on every variant up to PKR 77.09 lacs - driver and passenger only, no side and no curtain airbags
▼The 1.6 MT has no vehicle stability control at all, along with steel wheels and halogen headlamps
▼No driver-assistance equipment anywhere in the range - no blind-spot monitor, no lane keeping, no autonomous braking
▼The Corolla Cross starts at PKR 72,35,000 with seven airbags, which makes the top Corollas difficult to recommend on safety
▼A torsion-beam rear axle is basic for the money by current standards
▼No hybrid Corolla sedan is offered in Pakistan, where the Corolla Cross hybrid returns about 17 km/l
▼No independent crash rating exists for the car sold here

Safety
What is known about this car's safety in Pakistan
This is the part of the Corolla that needs saying plainly.
Toyota's own specification sheet for the Corolla Altis X gives the airbag line as "SRS Airbag: Dual (Driver + Passenger Side)" for every variant, from the PKR 60,99,000 1.6 MT to the PKR 77,09,000 Grande. Two airbags. No front side airbags, no side curtain airbags, anywhere in the range.
Vehicle stability control is not standard either. The specification sheet marks it absent on the 1.6 MT and present from the 1.6 CVT-i upwards. A buyer choosing the cheapest Corolla is choosing a car with two airbags and no stability control.
What is standard across the range: anti-lock braking with electronic brake distribution and brake assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors and an immobiliser. The CVT variants add an alarm, front and rear cameras and central locking with a speed-sensing lock.
There is no driver-assistance equipment on any Corolla sold here - no blind-spot monitor, no lane keeping assist, no autonomous emergency braking, no adaptive cruise control.
The comparison that matters is inside the same showroom. The Corolla Cross starts at PKR 72,35,000 - PKR 4.94 lacs more than a Corolla 1.6 CVT-i - and has seven airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, hill-start assist and emergency brake signal on every variant.
Pakistan has no NCAP programme, so the car sold here carries no independent crash rating.
