The BYD Shark 6 is imported by Mega Motor Company and launched in Karachi on 25 July 2025 as Pakistan's first plug-in hybrid pickup. It is offered in a single Premium trim and is an import from China.
The Shark 6 is BYD's first pickup, built on the company's DMO platform. Mechanically it is unlike every other double-cab on sale in Pakistan: there is no ladder-frame-with-transfer-case drivetrain, no low range and no mechanical connection between the engine and the rear axle. A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine works largely as a generator and supplementary front-axle driver, while separate electric motors on each axle provide traction, coordinated electronically.
This puts the Shark 6 in a category of one locally, at a price no locally assembled pickup approaches. It is not aimed at the fleet, agricultural and contractor buyers who account for most double-cab sales here - the Hilux Revo and D-Max own that ground.
It is a lifestyle and status purchase, positioned closer to a large luxury SUV than to a work vehicle, and local coverage has characterised it that way from launch.
A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine rated at 135 kW is paired with two electric motors - 130 kW at the front axle and 150 kW at the rear - for a combined 321 kW (431 hp) and 650 Nm, with electronically coordinated all-wheel drive and no mechanical transfer case or low range. Energy storage is a 29.58 kWh LFP Blade battery giving a claimed 100 km of pure-electric range; with the 60-litre tank BYD quotes up to 800 km combined. Claimed 0 to 100 km/h is 5.7 seconds. The vehicle is 5,457 mm long on a 3,260 mm wheelbase, with 230 mm of unladen ground clearance and a 2,710 kg kerb weight. Payload and towing figures for the Pakistani specification are not published.
No verified Pakistani owner data exists. There are no published owner reviews more than a year after launch. Aggregator pages nonetheless print figures attributed to owner reports - around 9 to 10 km/l on petrol alone and a 75 to 85 km real electric range - that trace to nothing, and they should not be treated as observed Pakistani data. What can be said factually: the electric range is claimed at 100 km, real plug-in consumption depends entirely on how often the owner plugs in, and a 2,710 kg pickup running as a petrol hybrid with a depleted battery will not be economical. Until owners start reporting, any Pakistani consumption figure for this vehicle is an estimate.
