The second-generation MG HS is sold by MG JW Automobile Pakistan, a joint venture between SAIC Motor of China and Pakistan's JW Group, which runs an assembly plant in Lahore configured for petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid production. In March 2026 SAIC announced a 20 million dollar expansion of that facility specifically to prepare it for the HS hybrids and deepen localisation.
The second generation was announced for Pakistan on 24 April 2026 with two electrified variants, the Hybrid+ and the Super Hybrid plug-in, with deliveries from June. MG held a local line-off ceremony for both in July 2026, confirming local assembly rather than CBU import. A 1.5 Turbo petrol variant was added on 4 September 2026.
The HS sits in the compact SUV space at roughly 4,655 mm long and competes with the Haval H6, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Proton X70, Chery Tiggo 8 and Jaecoo J7.
MG's Pakistani history is not stable, and that matters. In June 2025 the company had to airlift critical parts into Pakistan to resume HS plug-in production after supply-chain disruption, and in March 2026 it quietly discontinued the first-generation HS without an official statement. The second generation arrives on the back of a genuine production interruption and an unannounced model deletion, even as SAIC puts fresh capital into the plant.
All three Pakistani variants are built around the same 1,496 cc turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine driving the front wheels. The 1.5 Turbo produces about 165 hp and 250 Nm through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Hybrid+ is a self-charging hybrid whose electric motor is roughly 40 percent more powerful than its petrol engine, quoted at launch as a combined 221 hp and 340 Nm, requiring no external charging. The Super Hybrid is the plug-in, combining the same engine with a 24.7 kWh battery for a combined 295 hp and 350 Nm. There is no all-wheel-drive option in the local range.
Real-world owner data is very thin - the model has only been on sale since June 2026 and the petrol variant since September. Quoted figures are around 10 to 12 km/l for the 1.5 Turbo petrol and roughly 23 km/l city and 17 highway for the Hybrid+. The Super Hybrid has no single meaningful consumption number: owners who charge nightly and drive within the 120 to 132 km real-world electric range may use almost no petrol, while those who never plug in are running a heavier car on the same 1.5-litre engine. Treat all of these as provisional.
