| Toyota Corolla Cross (HEV) HEV 1800 cc, Automatic, Hybrid Cut Rs 5.5 lacs effective 13 Sep 2026. HEV X is Rs 97.29 lacs. | PKR 9,299,000 |
The Corolla Cross is assembled in Pakistan by Indus Motor Company, Toyota's local partner since 1989, at Port Qasim, Karachi. The hybrid version was lined off on 6 December 2023 and launched on 18 December 2023, making it Pakistan's first locally assembled hybrid electric vehicle - a genuine industrial milestone rather than a marketing claim, since every hybrid sold here before it was an import or a used Japanese car.
This is the first-generation Corolla Cross on Toyota's TNGA-C platform, using the fourth-generation Toyota hybrid system with a 1.8-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine and an electric motor through an e-CVT. It is a conventional hybrid with no plug - the battery is charged by the engine and by regenerative braking, which is precisely why it has no dependence on Pakistan's charging infrastructure.
The range has since broadened, with conventional petrol variants added in early 2024. The hybrids sit at the top of the compact-SUV market against the Honda HR-V e:HEV - which after its own September 2026 cut is at exact price parity - the Jolion HEV, the Sportage, the MG HS, and now the Chinese electrified entrants.
What separates the Corolla Cross from all of those is roughly three decades of Toyota dealer and parts coverage reaching into towns where the Chinese brands have no presence at all.
The hybrid variants use Toyota's 1,798 cc Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder, rated at 72 kW (98 hp) and 142 Nm, combined with a 53 kW electric motor through an e-CVT driving the front wheels, for a system output of approximately 122 hp. This is Toyota's fourth-generation hybrid system, with EV, ECO and Power drive modes. Indus Motor warrants the hybrid battery for 6 years or 160,000 km but does not publish the pack's chemistry or capacity for the Pakistani specification. The petrol-only variants use the same displacement in non-hybrid form at 138 hp, also through a CVT. Body dimensions are 4,460 x 1,825 x 1,620 mm with 161 mm of ground clearance and 487 litres of boot space on the hybrid.
This is the only car in its group with a substantial body of Pakistani owner data, drawn from more than two dozen owner reviews. The HEV averages about 17 km/l - roughly 18 in the city and 16 on the highway - and the heavier HEV X about 16, against 13.5 for the petrol variants. The city-above-highway pattern is exactly what a series-parallel hybrid should produce and is a good sign the data is real rather than generated. One reviewer reported 17.5 km/l on a highway run with four occupants at 120 to 130 km/h including three hours of idling, which is credible. Local video claims of a steady 22 to 24 km/l represent best-case gentle driving, and a social-media claim of 31 km/l on high-octane fuel is not credible. A realistic expectation is 15 to 18 km/l in mixed use, falling toward the lower end with the air conditioning working hard in summer.
