Toyota Corolla Altis Grande 2026 pros & cons

✓ What we like

  • Unmatched spare-parts availability and nationwide service coverage - almost any workshop in Pakistan can work on it
  • Consistently the strongest resale value in its class, which materially lowers real cost of ownership
  • Comfortable, absorbent ride tuned for poor road surfaces, with 175 mm of ground clearance
  • Good fuel economy from the 1.6 CVT, helped by low kerb weight
  • Proven naturally aspirated engines with a long service record locally - no turbo, no dual-clutch, no hybrid battery
  • Responsive 9-inch infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across the range

✕ What we don't like

  • The twelfth-generation Corolla launched globally in 2018; Pakistan is still sold the previous generation
  • The same platform and drivetrain have been on sale locally for over a decade, with only cosmetic updates since 2021
  • Only two airbags on every variant, including the PKR 77 lac Grande
  • No hybrid option in the sedan range, despite Indus Motor now building the Corolla Cross Hybrid locally
  • No rear AC vents on any variant, which tells in a Pakistani summer
  • Torsion-beam rear suspension; handling and high-speed composure lag the Civic
  • Prices have risen far faster than incomes - the base manual now costs more than a loaded Grande did a few years ago

Toyota Corolla Altis Grande 2026 overview

The Toyota Corolla has been sold in Pakistan since the 1960s and has been assembled locally by Indus Motor Company at its Port Qasim plant in Karachi since 1993. It is among the longest continuously produced nameplates in the Pakistani market and for most of the last three decades has been the country's best-selling passenger sedan, competing primarily with the Honda Civic and, at the lower end of its range, the Honda City and Changan Alsvin.

The current Pakistani car is the eleventh-generation E170, introduced locally in 2014 and given a substantial facelift in 2021 that Indus branded "Altis X". That update brought revised front and rear lighting, a new body kit, reworked cabin trim and a 9-inch Android-based touchscreen, and on upper grades the Toyota Connect telematics system with vehicle tracking through a smartphone app. Mechanically the car was unchanged.

The range is built around two naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engines, the 1.6-litre 1ZR-FE and the 1.8-litre 2ZR-FE, with a six-speed manual offered only on the 1.6 base car and a seven-speed CVT on everything else. Positioning runs from the Altis X Manual 1.6 as a value and fleet proposition up to the Altis Grande X, which is Indus Motor's top locally assembled sedan below the imported Camry.

The Corolla's standing in Pakistan rests less on the product than on Indus Motor's dealer and parts network, the depth of the independent repair trade's familiarity with it, and unusually strong resale values. Those factors have kept it selling in volume despite a platform now well past a decade old and prices that have risen sharply.

Latest updates

Engine and performance

Both Pakistani Corolla engines come from Toyota's ZR family: the 1ZR-FE at 1598 cc and the 2ZR-FE at 1798 cc. Both are in-line four-cylinder, 16-valve DOHC units with chain-driven camshafts and Dual VVT-i on both intake and exhaust, running sequential multi-port fuel injection with no forced induction. Indus Motor rates the 1.6 at 120 hp and 154 Nm, and the 1.8 at 138 hp and 173 Nm. Neither uses direct injection. The 1.8's real advantage is mid-range torque, which arrives 1200 rpm earlier than the 1.6's peak and makes it noticeably less strained when the car is loaded.

Fuel economy

Indus Motor publishes no official fuel-economy figures, so the numbers quoted in Pakistan come from aggregator data and owner reports. Claimed ranges are 12 to 15 km/l for the 1.6 manual, 14 to 17 km/l for the 1.6 CVT and 12 to 14 km/l for the 1.8. Real-world results sit lower: urban driving in Karachi or Lahore traffic typically returns 9 to 11 km/l for the 1.8 and 10 to 12 km/l for the 1.6, while steady motorway cruising can reach 14 to 16 km/l for the 1.6 CVT. Air-conditioner load, stop-start congestion and fuel quality account for most of the gap. With a 55-litre tank a realistic mixed-use range is roughly 600 to 700 km.
