This is the Toyota to buy if safety matters to you, and it is not a close call. Seven airbags on every variant, including the PKR 72.35 lac base car, where the Corolla sedan has two at any price and the Yaris three. Add stability control, traction control, hill-start assist and emergency brake signal as standard and the Corolla Cross is a different proposition from the rest of the showroom. Within the range: the base 1.8 is noticeably stripped - single-zone climate, no rear vents, no cruise control, halogen lamps, a 7-inch screen - so the 1.8 X at PKR 79,35,000 is the better petrol buy. The hybrid at PKR 92.99 lacs returns about 17 km/l against the petrol car's 12, which over high mileage is a real case; the 36-litre tank is its one practical compromise.

The Corolla Cross is Toyota's compact crossover in Pakistan and, on safety equipment, the most completely specified car the company sells here. Four variants from PKR 72,35,000 to PKR 97,29,000: the 1.8 and 1.8 X on petrol, and the 1.8 HEV and 1.8 HEV X as hybrids.
All four use a 1,798 cc engine. The petrol cars run the 2ZR-FE making 103 kW at 6,400 rpm and 172 Nm at 4,000. The hybrids run the 2ZR-FXE making 72 kW at 5,200 and 142 Nm at 3,600, with a 53 kW, 163 Nm electric motor alongside it. Every variant drives the front wheels through a CVT.
The body is 4,460 mm long, 1,825 wide and 1,620 tall on a 2,640 mm wheelbase, with 161 mm of ground clearance, 17-inch alloys on 215/60 R17 and a 5.2 m turning radius.
The tank differs by powertrain: 47 litres on the petrol cars and 36 on the hybrids.
Seven airbags on every variant - driver, passenger, knee and side curtains - along with vehicle stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, emergency brake signal, anti-lock braking with brake distribution and brake assist, ISOFIX anchors, an immobiliser with alarm and driver and passenger occupant seat sensors. No other Toyota sold in Pakistan comes close.
One displacement, two powertrains, one gearbox type. The petrol 1.8 and 1.8 X use the 2ZR-FE, 1,798 cc, making 103 kW at 6,400 rpm and 172 Nm at 4,000, through a continuously variable transmission to the front wheels. The tank holds 47 litres. The 1.8 HEV and 1.8 HEV X use the 2ZR-FXE, the same 1,798 cc block in Atkinson-cycle hybrid form, making 72 kW at 5,200 rpm and 142 Nm at 3,600, paired with a 53 kW, 163 Nm electric motor. Drive modes are EV, Eco and Power, with regenerative braking and pitch and bounce control. There is no plug - the battery charges from the engine and from braking. The tank holds 36 litres, eleven less than the petrol car, which is the price of packaging the hybrid system. Suspension is MacPherson strut at the front and a torsion beam at the rear on every variant. Brakes are 16-inch ventilated discs at the front and 16-inch solid discs at the rear. All four run 17-inch alloys on 215/60 R17. Headlamps mark the trim divide: halogen on the base 1.8, Bi-Beam LED on the other three.
Pakistani owners record about 17.0 km/l in the city and 20.0 on the highway from the Corolla Cross hybrid, roughly 18.3 combined. That makes it one of the most economical cars Toyota sells in Pakistan and the most economical crossover in this part of the market. The petrol cars are projected here at about 12.0 km/l city and 15.0 highway - a 1,798 cc naturally aspirated four with a CVT in a 1,620 mm tall crossover. That projection is not a Toyota figure and not a measurement. The gap is substantial: roughly 42 per cent better in town for the hybrid. But the price gap is PKR 20.64 lacs between the base petrol and the base hybrid, and at current fuel prices that takes a great many kilometres to repay. The hybrid makes sense for high annual mileage and for anyone who spends most of their time in traffic, where the system runs on the motor most often. The tank works the other way. At 36 litres and 18.3 km/l the hybrid covers about 660 km; at 47 litres and 13.1 km/l the petrol car covers about 615 km. The hybrid wins, but by less than the economy figures suggest. Pakistan has no mandatory fuel-economy test and Toyota publishes no local consumption figure, so every number here is either an owner report or a projection from one, and is labelled as such on the page it appears on.

The Corolla Cross is the safety outlier in Toyota's Pakistani range, and the figures are from Toyota's own specification sheet.
Seven airbags on every variant: driver and passenger, a knee airbag, and side curtain airbags left and right. The sheet marks all three rows present across all four columns.
Also standard on every variant: vehicle stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, emergency brake signal, anti-lock braking with emergency brakeforce distribution and brake assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors, an immobiliser with alarm, driver and passenger occupant seat sensors, three-point ELR seat belts with pretensioners and force limiters at the front, and a rear camera display.
The variants differ on two items. Clearance sonar: two front and four rear sensors on the HEV X, HEV and 1.8 X, dropping to two rear only on the base 1.8. And the blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, which is HEV X only.
Set against the rest of the showroom, this is a different class of car. The Corolla sedan, up to PKR 77,09,000, has two airbags and no stability control on its cheapest variant. The Corolla Cross has seven airbags and stability control from PKR 72,35,000.
Pakistan has no NCAP programme, so the car sold here carries no independent crash rating.
Four variants: 1.8 at PKR 72,35,000, 1.8 X at PKR 79,35,000, 1.8 HEV at PKR 92,99,000 and 1.8 HEV X at PKR 97,29,000, suggested retail ex-factory Karachi.
Seven on every variant - driver, passenger, knee and side curtains. For comparison, the Corolla sedan has two at any price and the Yaris three.
Yes, two of them - the 1.8 at PKR 72,35,000 and the 1.8 X at PKR 79,35,000. Both use a 2ZR-FE 1,798 cc engine with a CVT.
Owners record about 17.0 km/l in the city and 20.0 on the highway from the hybrid. The petrol cars are projected at about 12.0 and 15.0 - a projection, not a measurement.
It is PKR 20.64 lacs above the base petrol car and returns roughly 42 per cent better economy in town. Over high annual mileage that case is real; over average use it takes a long time to repay. The hybrid needs no charging and drives like an automatic.
The 1.8 X at PKR 79,35,000 is the better petrol buy - the base 1.8 goes without dual-zone climate, rear air vents, cruise control, LED headlamps and the 9-inch screen. If economy matters most and the budget reaches it, the HEV.
The HEV X adds a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert - the only Toyota car in Pakistan with either - plus a power tailgate with kick sensor, a moonroof, leather seats, a powered driver's seat, auto-folding mirrors with reverse link, a rain sensor and a 9-inch screen in place of the 7-inch.
47 litres on the petrol variants and 36 on the hybrids.
On safety there is no contest - seven airbags against two, with stability control standard. The Corolla Cross starts at PKR 72,35,000, below the Corolla 1.6 Special Edition. The Corolla sedan keeps stronger resale and a larger boot.
3 years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first. The premium extended warranty also covers the Corolla Cross.
