Our takeCarMania research desk
The 3,000 mm wheelbase is the whole story. The IONIQ 5 is no longer than a mid-size crossover but has the cabin of something considerably bigger, which is what a purpose-built electric platform gives you and a converted petrol car cannot. 84 kWh and 500 km of range are real numbers from Hyundai's own Pakistani brochure, and 239 kW with all-wheel drive as standard means there is no slow version. The thing to establish before signing is what the PKR 24.99 lac step to the Signature actually buys, because Hyundai publishes one specification column for both trims and does not itemise the difference anywhere. Also check the battery warranty: Hyundai's own price list shows four years, where most makers offer eight.

The good & the bad
The good
- ▲A 3,000 mm wheelbase in a 4,655 mm body gives cabin space no converted petrol car of this size can match
- ▲84 kWh and up to 500 km of range, published by Hyundai for the Pakistani car rather than quoted from a global brochure
- ▲239 kW and 605 Nm with all-wheel drive as standard on both trims - there is no underpowered version
- ▲Vehicle-to-load lets the car run mains appliances, which is genuinely useful during load-shedding
- ▲745 litres of boot space
- ▲Six airbags, a blind-spot monitor and a 360-degree surround-view monitor
- ▲Heated and ventilated front seats, a relaxation comfort seat and a premium Bose system
- ▲A panoramic sunroof, auto-flush door handles and parametric pixel LED lighting
The bad
- ▼Hyundai's own price list shows a 4-year battery warranty, where eight years is the industry norm for an electric car
- ▼Hyundai publishes one specification column for both trims and does not itemise what the PKR 24.99 lac Signature premium buys
- ▼At PKR 225.00 lacs it competes with the Kia EV5 Earth at PKR 218.50 lacs, which is currently discounted
- ▼Hyundai Pakistan publishes no charging times for the IONIQ 5, so DC fast-charging performance is not documented locally
- ▼Pakistan's public fast-charging network is thin outside Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad
- ▼20-inch wheels on a 2,090-2,180 kg car are vulnerable on poor surfaces
- ▼No independent crash rating exists for the car sold here

Safety
What is known about this car's safety in Pakistan
Six airbags, a blind-spot monitor and a 360-degree surround-view monitor are the items Hyundai lists for the Pakistani IONIQ 5.
The car is built on Hyundai's E-GMP electric platform, which places the battery in the floor between the axles. That gives a very low centre of gravity and a large crash structure ahead of the cabin where a combustion car carries its engine.
Hyundai Nishat's published material for the IONIQ 5 is thinner than for its combustion cars - the specification page on its own website returns only body type and seat count, and the brochure's safety section is brief. Items such as lane keeping assist, forward collision avoidance and smart cruise control are not listed in the Pakistani material, and this site does not assume they are fitted simply because the car has them in other markets. Ask the dealer for the equipment list in writing.
One point worth raising at the dealership: Hyundai's own IONIQ price list shows a four-year battery warranty. Eight years is the normal term for an electric car's drive battery, and four is short.
Pakistan has no NCAP programme, so the car sold here carries no independent crash rating.
